Guide to Athens
Ancient marbles whisper. Let’s turn up the volume.
I'm Charis — and Athens is my lifelong story.
A licensed guide certified by the Greek Ministry of Tourism, and a passionate storyteller who has spent years uncovering Athens’ layers: the mythological, the archaeological, and the deeply human.
Whether you come to Athens with a notebook, a family, a team, or simply curiosity, I create experiences that stay with you long after you leave the city. Every visit I lead is unique, because every group is unique, and that never gets old.
Being a licensed guide isn't just a title — it's what stands behind every story you hear: true, rooted in years of study and a genuine love for this city.

Athens Through Stories
Private, themed and family tours of Athens’ most iconic — and most secret — sites. Every visit is built around your group, your pace and your curiosity. History told through stories, not textbooks.
Classical Athens
The Acropolis, the Parthenon, the Ancient Agora — the essential Athens, told through the lives of the people who built it, debated in it and lived it every single day.
Mythical Athens
Designed for curious minds of all ages. Interactive, engaging and genuinely fun — for children and the adults who forgot to stop asking questions.
Tasty Athens
Street pies, market chaos, honey-drizzled bites and Greek coffee. A walk through the city the way locals actually eat it — from Varvakios market to the backstreets of Psyrri.
Hidden Athens
Byzantine churches glittering with gold, a National Gallery most visitors never find, and the quiet corners Athens keeps to itself. The city beneath the city.
Athens By Night
The Pnyx under a blanket of stars, the city’s quiet corners after dark — Athens takes on a different rhythm once the sun goes down. Stargazing above the ancient rock, and wandering the streets as the city reveals its after-hours secrets.
Beyond Athens
The rest of Greece, close enough to reach in a day. Ancient sanctuaries, island light and landscapes that shaped the myths — all with the same private, story-first approach.
What every tour includes: A licensed, certified guide · Fully private · Your pace, your questions, your Athens

C'était parfait. Elle nous a aussi donné des adresses pour diner ou boire un verre.Posted on Google Val Bgx08/06/2026Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Superbe expérience. Nous avons adoré. Charis nous a offert une remontée dans le temps pédagogique et ludique mais surtout elle s'assure que les notions sont comprises et retenues. Histoire, mythologie, moment de vie...tout est abordé. Je recommande vivement !Posted on Google Moilesyeuxbleus30/05/2026Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Posted on Google Angelique Jeminet18/05/2026Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We have had many different private guides in different parts of the world, but none better than Charis Kavvada, who was the most knowledgeable, passionate and fun to be with guide we have had! There is nothing she doesn't know about the Acropolis and she is an expert in many other sites we didn't have time to see. You will be fortunate to have Charis as your guide!Posted on Google nancy greenspon10/05/2026Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My husband and I had the great fortune to book a tour of the Acropolis Museum with Charis. She is one of the finest, most knowledgeable and enthusiastic guides we have ever experienced. And we have had many excellent guides over the past 30 years. Her attention to detail and her passion for the history and mythology, the architecture and the archaeology and her overall approach to the collection were all superb. We felt so fortunate and taken care of. Please book with Charis and you won’t be disappointed. You will surely be delighted!Posted on Google JP Nicolaides21/04/2026Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Charis is a great guide, very informative and fun tour. Everything You Need to Know
From private tours and treasure hunts to booking details and practical information, here are the answers to the questions we hear most often.
How is a private tour different from a group tour?
With a private tour, the pace is yours. We stop when something interests you, slow down for questions, adapt to your children or your curiosity. There is no fixed script and no strangers pulling the group in a different direction. It is your Athens, not a shared one.
Can you combine different experiences into one day?
Absolutely. Many groups start with the Acropolis in the morning and end with a food walk or a Byzantine tour in the afternoon. Tell me how many days you have and what interests you — I will suggest the right combination.
My children are excited but also easily distracted. Can you really keep them engaged for two or three hours?
Children are honestly my favourite audience — they ask the questions adults are too polite to ask and they have zero tolerance for anything boring. Which means I have to be good. I adapt constantly: shorter explanations, stories with gods who argue and heroes who make mistakes, questions thrown back at them before they drift. I have never lost a child’s attention on this hill. I have had to slow down for the parents though.
Why should I book a licensed guide rather than an independent one?
In Greece, only licensed guides are legally permitted to lead tours inside museums and archaeological sites. Unlicensed guides can be stopped by authorities mid-tour — and the tour ends immediately with no refund. A licensed guide means you are protected, informed and in the hands of someone who completed rigorous university-level studies certified by the Greek Ministry of Tourism. It also means I pay taxes, operate a fully legitimate business and am accountable to a professional body. You are not booking an activity. You are booking an expert.
How far in advance do we need to book for a corporate event?
For groups over 20 people, at least 3–4 weeks notice is ideal. For smaller executive groups, 10 days is usually enough. The sooner you contact me, the more I can customise for you.
