This is where Athens worked. Grain was weighed, laws debated, votes cast, reputations made and ruined. Democracy was not an idea discussed in books. It was a daily, noisy, occasionally chaotic practice.

This is a story-driven tour. We follow Simon, a cobbler and friend of Socrates, whose workshop stood just outside the Agora. Through his eyes, we meet Athens not as a legend, but in action.

We walk through the spaces where the citizens voted, judged, worshipped, traded, debated and philosophized. We encounter the best-preserved temple in Greece, the story of a “wandering” temple, and the mythical creatures who still watch over the Agora from above.

The magnificent Stoa of Attalos, a colonnaded arcade rebuilt in all its original grandeur, offers the closest experience of stepping into an ancient cultural and commercial hub. Here, surrounded by magnificent sculptures, household objects, inscriptions, voting equipment, tools and personal belongings, we discover the physical evidence of everyday life and the mindset of the people who built Athens.

I designed this walk around the way we actually eat in this city.

We start with a warm pie from a place I’ve been returning to for years. We end with Greek coffee and baklava, the way every good morning in Athens should end. In between — golden bites drizzled with honey, a sweet with Olympic roots, olives and cheeses that smell like the mountains they came from, and meze platters that will make you understand why ancient Greeks invented the symposium.

This isn’t a food tour where you tick boxes. It’s a walk through the city as locals actually live it. Through the spice-filled streets of Evripidou, past the vibrant Ermou Street, through the chaos and warmth of Varvakios market, into the backstreets of Psyrri where Athens gets real.

Its presence is still visible everywhere: in a tiny church tucked into a modern hotel, in ancient marble fragments reused within medieval walls, in a dark hidden crypt beneath a Byzantine church and in the imposing, elegant domes rising above the city streets.

This journey begins at the Byzantine Museum, one of the finest in the world, with a curated visit through key galleries. Painted masterpieces, luminous mosaics, and sacred relics reveal a quiet transformation — how the ancient world slowly shifts into a new spiritual language through adaptation.

At its peak, Corinth was one of the wealthiest, most powerful and most scandalous cities in the ancient world: controlling two seas, two ports and every trade route between them. It was a city of ambition and reinvention: destroyed by Rome, rebuilt by Rome, and still impossible to disregard.

We begin at the Corinth Canal — a 19th-century engineering marvel carved through solid rock, creating one of Greece’s most dramatic landscapes. Standing above its sheer walls, you understand why this place has fascinated explorers for generations. The scale simply does not compute until you are there.

Then we spend the morning in Ancient Corinth — walking the forum, the temples, the markets, the fountains — and in the Archaeological Museum, where the objects tell the story better than any textbook. Seven columns of the Temple of Apollo still stand exactly where they were placed in the 6th century BC. They were already ancient when the Parthenon was built. Standing next to them recalibrates everything.

As dusk falls over Athens, we’ll walk to the Hill of the Nymphs beside the National Observatory and the Pnyx Hill, where the illuminated Acropolis provides the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable evening beneath the stars. On this same hill, where the astronomer Meton studied the heavens more than 2,400 years ago, ancient curiosity meets modern astronomy beside the observatory’s historic telescope.

Together we’ll trace the constellations visible that evening, discovering the myths behind heroes, gods and legendary creatures whose stories have been written across the Greek sky for millennia. Weather and season permitting, we’ll also observe the Moon, Saturn’s rings, Jupiter and its moons, and other celestial highlights professional astronomical optics.
